People often start building websites without first considering whether they want to create a mini site or an authority site. Usually it is the newer people to online business who sometimes wonder which is best to build. Actually, there are a number of things to think about as well as to consider, as it concerns search engine algorithms and personality (Google).
However, your decision should be based mainly on your own particular situation, goals and tastes. We will explore the choice and differences between authority and mini sites in the rest of this article. For some marketers, this is the perfect choice. Perhaps you only want to target one very thin slice of a market; a micro-niche market. With the latter, you can target just one or two main keyword phrases very easily and often rank very well in a short time. To be fair, you can also target the same micro-niche within an authority site.
Years ago it was possible to get a highly optimized minisite ranking very well, but that is not the case now in 2010. Mini sites still represent a marketing method that can yield quicker profits than you will realize from a new authority site. An authority site represents an investment of time and some money, so the mindset is totally different. That is exactly what it is, and it is an investment of your time and money. Long term investments have risk, too, and there is no guarantee that the stocks you buy today will have value in ten years. Everything about an authority site is much slower, and that includes the ability to get them high on the first page of the serps. The future reward of an authority site is that if it ends-up in position number one, then it is a whole new ball game with monetizing and profits. Large websites that are filled with helpful information are more authoritative to visitors. This alone will establish credibility for some people. This would be a rare exception to the rule for mini sites. But those tend to be very rare, indeed. Because all your marketing ventures are unique, it’s important to consider them all separately. So it is almost unwise to make a blanket statement that a mini or authority site is not a good idea for all markets and business applications.
